HOB U20s 1 - 3 Bonnyton Thistle
Scorer:- Jack Jardine

Friday 29th March
Home to Bonnyton Thisle tonight in the Lowlands Conference A League game. The game started at a fast pace with both teams going for it. A lapse in concentration in defence cost us after 6 minutes and we found ourselves 1-0 down. Following this we pushed hard for an equaliser and had a few chances to counter but nothing would go in. On 70 minutes two dubious decisions denied us a penalty but awarded one for the opposition almost immediately resulted in us going 2-0 down. On 81 minutes Jack pulled one back for us and it was game on again. Try as we may an equaliser didn't come and Bonnyton broke away to make the final score 3-1. Can't complain tonight, result disappointing but performance up where we want it to be. Can't control decisions going against us! but the lads will learn from this.

HOB U20s 6 - 1 Edinburgh Uni AFC
Scorers:- Jardine (2), Nicoll & Mauchlen (3)

A home game tonight, again in windy conditions against Edinburgh University. We asked the boys to keep the ball down and move it quickly and that's exactly what they done. Two good gaols from Jack and Dean took us in at half time 2-0 ahead. We dominated the second half and regular goals came from Ryan with a hat trick and a further counter from Jack contributed to a 6-1 victory with us losing a slack goal late on. Very happy with the lads tonight, great attitude and performance after a couple of weeks where it hasn't went our way.

Tynecastle 2 - 0 HOB U20s

A tough one tonight away to Tynecastle FC in our Lowlands Conference A league game. Again we started brightly and looked like taking a lead with some good play and chances created. Tyncastle slowly worked their way into the game and took the lead midway through the half to lead 1-0 at half time. The second half followed the same pattern as the first and again we lost a goal that shouldn't be conceded to lose out 2-0. A tough reminder in this league that you must take your chances but more importantly you must remain switched on at all times.

Kelty Hearts 5 - 2 HOB U20s
Scorers:- Jardine & Marshall

Tonight seen us travel to Central Park Kelty in the quarter final of the Development league Cup. In a great first half both teams were a credit to themselves in producing some excellent football. Kelty opened the scoring after 20 minutes only for Jack to equalise almost immediately, this looked to be the score at half time only for Kelty to score again in the 45th minute. Again after 46 minutes Kelty increased their lead and then continued to put us under pressure, we weathered this period and again settled with Rory scoring a header from a Ben free kick. Try as we could we couldn't make any more in roads and Kelty ran out 5-2 winners. No complaints with the lads efforts and again we showed that we can compete against good teams, we'll continue to learn and look forward to getting back to league business away to Tynecastle on Friday.

HOB U20s 0 - 5 Edinburgh City

Friday 8th March
A disappointing night for us losing 5-0 against Edinburgh City in our home game in the 2nd round of the Knock Out Cup. A night when nothing went right for us and on chances this game could easily have been 5-5. We'll learn from it though and be ready to go again against Kelty in the Development Cup on Wednesday.

U20 Development Challenge Cup - 1st March 2019

Friday 1st March
Back at Keirs Park tonight for our 2nd Round Challenge Cup tie against Lothian Thistle HV. From the off we struggled to get into our normal stride and HV took advantage of some slack play from us and we went in 2-0 down at the interval. A bit of reorganisation at half time and we started the second half strongly. Midway through the half Ryan scored from a direct free kick and it was game on again. This though only seemed….

Friday 22nd February
A large crowd gathered to see our local derby at home against Kelty Hearts in our Lowlands Development league game. We started very well and after five minutes Jack scored to put us in front with a great lob over the Kelty keeper. Kelty responded by putting us under pressure and equalised after twenty minutes. This seemed to settle us and we had our best spell from then till half time with Jay heading home five minutes before half time to send us in 2-1 in front. The visitors came out strong ……

HOB U20s 3 - 0 Preston Athletic
Scorers:- Jardine, Nicoll & Mauchlen

Friday 8th February
A home game tonight in the Lowlands League Conferance A against Preston Athletic. A very windy night for both teams and getting the ball down was going to be key. We dealt with the conditions better and settled into our passing game quickly and we created a few chanches. After 20 minutes a long range shot from Craig was not gathered by the keeper and Ryan was sharpest to net the rebound to put us 1-0 up. This was quickly followed with a good finish from Dean inside the box to go in at half time 2-0 up. The second half was a bit scrappy for long periods until Jack came on and had an immediate impact scoring with a great shot just inside the box. Delighted to get another U16's player Euan Stewart 30 minutes playing time and the young lad showed some great stuff. All in all, happy with the 3-0 victory and another clean sheet for Declan.

HOB U20s 6 - 0 Newtongrange

Friday 25th January
A home game tonight against Newtongrange Star in the first round of the Development Cup. After a one on one with the Newtongrange keeper in the first minute which we missed the game had a stuffy start from both teams with little chances created. Eventually we settled and Jack fired home from 20 yards to put us 1-0 up. This spurred us on and almost immediately Rory scored a fantastic second goal after great work by Dean. Following half time we dominated the game and goals came flowing from Dylan, Dean, Ryan and Alex to record a very good victory and secure a home tie in the second round against Lothian Thistle HV. Free week next Friday which will give us time to clear up a few knocks and bruises.

Friday 18th January
Away to Heriot Watt at the impressive Orium Centre tonight hoping to get a positive result following last weeks defeat at Dunipace. Again, both teams were evenly matched and the game swung from end to end. Not many chances for both teams in the first half with the best a header from Rory which narrowly past the post. The second half opened up with both teams tiring on the big pitch. After an hour we introduced Alex, Lewis, Andrew and Dean and this gave us fresh legs which spurred us on to grab two goals from Dean and Alex. Defensively we were very strong during the second half which secured a clean sheet for Declan. Very happy with the 2-0 victory and the boys deserved the win through hard work and playing good passing football .

Friday 11th January
After our four week break an away trip to Dunipace was our first league fixture for 2019. Since our first league win of the season against Dunipace in September they have been on a decent run and we knew tonight was going to be a tough task. This is exactly as how the night turned out with both teams matching each other for long spells. Dunipace were first to score with a speculative shot from outside the box which found it's way to the back of our net on 29 minutes. We then had a good spell of pressure which brought success with a goal from Alex on 42 minutes after good work from Jack. HT 1-1. The second half was again tough but we worked hard and made a couple of great chances which we failed to capitalise on. On 88 minutes we let our guard down and Dunipace scored from a free kick to take the 3 points. Good to see Jason get his first full 90 minutes with the Club after signing during the break.

Cumbernauld Colts 1 - 2 HOB U20s

Friday 14th December 2018

Away to Cumbernauld Colts in our last game of 2018. On a cold evening at Broadwood  much of the opening exchanges were even with both teams settling into the game. A defensive mix up from us allowed the Cumbernauld striker to tap into the empty net to go 1-0 up. The first half ended this way with us making a few good chances but unable to convert any of them. After a brief discussion at half time we came out and looked more like ourselves. On the hour mark Jack scored after good work from Alex and we were right back in the game. Shortly after this a great free kick from Ryan into the back post caused confusion and Rory reacted the quickest to score which deflected off a defender before crossing the line, for me Rory’s goal! We defended when required in the closing 10 minutes and ran out worthy winners 2-1. Great to see the lads performing so well tonight and the progress is exactly what we’re after. Looking forward to 2019 now.

Friday 7th December
Very happy with the lads tonight in our home League game against Camelon. Again in difficult conditions we took the game to our opponents and forced them back. After hitting the post and bar three times we opened the scoring with a cross come shot from Dylan Harrison, after this a great run and cross from Rory, Dean arrived at the back post to score. We lost a goal from a corner after half an hour but just before half time Marco popped up at the back post to score from our corner to take us in at half time 3-1 up. The second half was much the same with us dominating play and on the hour Jack scored with a shot from outside the box. The game finished 4-1 to us and the lads deserved another 3 points. Delighted with the performance and look forward to an away trip to CumbernauId next week before the Christmas break.

Bonnyton Thistle 3 - 2 HOB U20s
Scorers:- Jardine & Binnington

Friday 30th NovemberOn our travels to Kilmarnock tonight to play Bonnyton Thistle. The game started in horrendous conditions with both teams sizing each other up with little chances being created. After 15 minutes slack defending cost us a goal with Bonnyton going 1-0 up. This sprung us into action and it wasn’t long before Jack had us back on level terms at 1-1. The remainder of the half we pressed for a second and had 4/5 great chances to get a second. Second half started as the first finished with us pressing for a second goal which came from Josh on the hour mark. Again we had great chances to put the game to bed but for some great goalkeeping and poor finishing it wasn’t to be. With the game heading towards the end Bonnyton grew in confidence from our missed chances and recorded two counters to take a 3-2 lead. Try as we could we couldn’t find an equaliser. Happy with the way we competed and performed tonight but a harsh lesson on taking your chances and defending properly at all times. Looking forward to next week already!

Friday 23rd November
A home league game tonight against Tynecastle FC was our challenge this week. Both teams started the game very well getting the ball down and playing some good football. Half time arrived with the score at 0-0 without there being any clear cut chances as defences from both sides performing very well. We made a couple of positional changes at half time and this spurred us on and after 55 minutes Jack was brought down in the box and a penalty awarded, Jack stood up and scored the spot kick to put us 1-0 up. As the game progressed Tynecastle grew in strength and in the closing minutes were throwing everything at us to get an equaliser but the lads defended superbly and Declan pulled off two great saves to secure another three points. Very happy with the attitude and effort tonight resulting in some great play all round.

Friday 16th November
Away to Whitehill Welfare tonight in the League knowing it was going to be a tough one after our draw against them in the first game of the season. We settled very quickly and raced to a two goal lead with Josh scoring both goals after causing their defence no end of problems. Whitehill got themselves back into the game with a slack goal from our point of view after 25 minutes. Alex though restored our two goal lead just before half time with a well taken goal. Second half started with us again pushing to extend our lead before a mad 20 minute spell where we lost 3 goals to be behind 4-3. Try as we could we couldn’t find an equaliser and came away with no points. We’ve learned tonight that in this League you must be switched on at all times and not drop your focus. Back at home next week to Tynecastle.

Friday 9th November
Very tough conditions tonight with wind and rain a big factor at Beath astro  in our League game at home to Heriot-Watt University. Again, we started well and took the game to our opponents. Not a lot of chances in the first half with the main talking point being after 20 minutes Lewis being straight through on goal and being upended on the edge of the box resulting in a free kick for us and a yellow!! card for the defender. Second half Heriot used the wind to their advantage and pressed hard for the opener which came after 65 minutes. Credit to the lads though they regrouped and after a couple of changes we were pressing for an equaliser. A tactical change seen us play with four strikers for the last 10 minutes and we got our reward when Lewis bundled the ball over the line in 85 minutes to give us a well deserved and probably right on the night 1-1 draw. Difficult conditions to get the ball down tonight but delighted with the attitude and work rate. On the road again next week away to Whitehill Welfare.

Friday 2nd November.
Back at home to face Cumbernauld Colts tonight in what was a great night for football. Again, we started strong and a repeat of last week Lewis was brought down in the box and Jack scored from the spot. After 30 minutes of some great play Jack scored again to make it 2-0 and it looked like we would increase that lead. Unfortunately we gave away a penalty and went in at half time with a 2-1 lead. Quick goals in the second half from Dylan and Jake had us comfortably in control until we let our guard down and lost two late goals, another penalty and a good move from Cumbernauld. All in all, delighted again with the performance and attitude.

Friday 26th October
Delighted to pick another three points on the road against Preston Athletic at Prestonpans. Again, we were quick out the block and Lewis was fouled in the box in less than a minute, Jack stepped up to slot home the penalty. Not long after Jake scored from a corner and we were looking very comfortable. Unfortunately we lost our way a bit and allowed Preston back into the game when a mix up in defence resulted in Marco scoring through his own net. A wee chat at half time inspired the lads and they came out the second half and dominated proceedings. Further goals followed with a brace for Craig, a first goal for Alex and to round it off a counter from Lewis. Final score 6-2. Very happy with the second half performance and we look good when we pass and move the ball quickly. Back at home next week when we welcome CumbernauId Colts to Keirs Park on Friday.

Friday 19th October
After three away games it was great to get back to Keirs Park in our League game versus Newtongrange Star. As usual the pitch was in fantastic condition. We started the game very well and pushed forward at every opportunity and after 20 minutes Deano arrived at the back post to drive home from just inside the box. Following this we got a bit scrappy and allowed Newtongrange an equaliser just before half time. We came out for the second half and again stamped our authority on the game with some good play. After a long run into the box from Lewis he was fouled by the keeper and stepped up to score the winner from the spot. All in all, not our best performance but delighted with our work rate and endeavour. Great to see the two new lads Luke and Alex get some minutes.
